DR KATE BARKER

Registered Osteopath

B.Sc (Clin), M.H.Sc. (Osteo)

Level 1 & 2 Dry needling and cupping

Kate is (almost) a Tasmanian Native, having lived here most of her life. She has a lifelong fascination with human anatomy and functionality. She became interested in Osteopathy after having her own sporting injuries successfully treated by an Osteopath. In 2012 Kate took the plunge and moved to Melbourne to complete a Bachelor of Clinical Science and a Masters of Osteopathy at Victoria University.

Kate enjoys treating a variety of demographics from children (3+ years of age) to those with many more years of wisdom under their belts. Kate is very structural in her approach to treatment and tailors every appointment to the individual’s needs. Kate has a strong interest in treating headaches, particularly jaw and sinus issues. Another key interest of Kate’s practise is treating pregnant and post-partum patients. She has undertaken further learning to develop specialty skills in these areas.

Kate enjoys fostering supportive relationships with her patients and providing education and understanding of their symptoms. Allowing patients to understand the cause of their injury/condition and the steps for recovery. She aims to have a comprehensive treatment plan and recognises the importance for integration of other health professions and services for better patient outcomes. Kate has a hands-on approach to treatment, applying such techniques as:

  • Soft tissue

  • Fascial release

  • Joint articulation/manipulation

  • Cupping

  • Dry needling

  • Exercise rehabilitation

When Kate is not at work, she can be found spending time with family, pottering around the garden, and catching up with friends. She is also a big fan of bushwalking and exploring our beautiful island home.
